FC 27 squad rating formula: the real maths with worked examples
The community-tested squad rating formula (average plus correction), two worked examples, and why one high card can rescue a Traditional SBC.
Traditional SBCs still ask for a minimum squad rating, and the number on screen is not the plain average of your eleven. EA has never published the exact formula, but years of community testing have settled on the method below, and it predicts the in-game number very closely.
The formula in four steps
- Total. Add up the overall ratings of your starting eleven.
- Average. Divide that total by 11.
- Correction. For every player rated above that average, take the gap (their rating minus the average) and add all those gaps together. Players at or below the average add nothing.
- Result. Add the correction to the total, divide by 11 again and round down to a whole number.
The rounding is strict: 83.99 shows as 83. Leave yourself a small margin on edge cases.
Worked example 1: ten 84s and one 90
Total = 10 x 84 + 90 = 930. Average = 930 / 11 = 84.55. Only the 90 is above average, by 5.45, so the correction is 5.45. Result = (930 + 5.45) / 11 = 85.04, which rounds down to 85. The plain average alone would only give 84.
Worked example 2: why 83.99 fails
Two 86s and nine 83s. Total = 172 + 747 = 919, average 83.55. Each 86 is 2.45 above, so the correction is 4.91. Result = 923.91 / 11 = 83.99, which shows as 83, one short of an 84 target.
Swap just one 83 for an 84: total 920, average 83.64, correction 2 x 2.36 + 0.36 = 5.09, result 925.09 / 11 = 84.10, so 84. One extra point on the cheapest card did the job.
What this means for cheap solutions
- Cards well above the target are very efficient, because they count twice: once in the total and again in the correction.
- When you are a fraction short, upgrade the lowest card by a point. It is usually the cheapest fix.
- Goalkeepers count like any other player, and high-rated keepers are often the cheapest way to add a big number.
Where it does not apply in FC 27
EA says the new Streamlined SBC format moves away from squad overall rating requirements and uses an item score instead (overall, rarity and Holographic status). So this maths is for Traditional, puzzle-style SBCs. For Streamlined ones, read our SBC solutions guide.
TGS tip: our squad builder shows the plain average live. If the average sits within about half a point of the target and you have one or two big cards, you are probably there. Confirm in game before submitting.
