Evolutions: how to pick the right player to upgrade

Not every eligible card is a good evolution target. A simple checklist to choose players whose upgrade actually changes your team.

Evolutions let you upgrade a player you own by completing objectives. The upgrade is permanent and the card stays untradeable, so the choice matters more than the grind.

Start from the position you need

Look at your starting eleven and find the weakest spot. An evolution that turns that position into a strength helps every match you play. A shiny upgrade on a bench player does not.

Prefer pace and positioning over raw overall

Overall rating is a summary. What usually decides matches is pace, how a player moves off the ball and whether their best attributes suit the role. If two candidates are eligible, pick the one whose strengths line up with how you actually play.

Plan chains

Some upgrades can stack. Before starting one, think about whether that player could also qualify for the next one. Starting with a lower-rated, high-potential card often leaves more room to stack later.

Do objectives where you already play

Objectives you can clear in modes you enjoy finish faster. Line up your evolution with the mode you play most so progress comes naturally.

TGS tip: screenshot the player's stats before and after. It is the easiest way to see whether the upgrade really changed how they play.
