FC 27 chemistry basics for SBCs and squads
How chemistry works in FC 27 Ultimate Team, what changed for ICONs and Heroes this year, and how to hit chemistry targets in SBCs without spending coins.
Chemistry rewards squads whose players share a club, league or nation and play in their positions. It affects how players perform in matches and shows up as a requirement in some Traditional SBCs.
The basics
- Each player can earn up to three chemistry points, so a full eleven tops out at 33. This is the system the series has used since FIFA 23; EA's FC 27 launch notes adjust special cards rather than replacing it.
- A player only earns chemistry when played in one of their listed positions.
- Points come from reaching thresholds: enough players from the same club, the same league or the same nation. The squad screen shows the exact thresholds and how close you are, so trust it rather than memorised numbers.
What changed in FC 27
EA's FC 27 launch update lists these changes:
- ICONs still get full chemistry in position and still give a +1 league link to every league, but their nation contribution drops from +2 to +1.
- Heroes still get full chemistry in position, but their league contribution drops from +2 to +1. Their +1 nation contribution is unchanged.
- Hall of FUT items follow the same chemistry rules as Heroes.
EA also says it will be more selective about boosted chemistry on campaign and special items during the year. In practice: do not assume a new special card fixes your links. Check it.
Chemistry in SBCs
- Streamlined SBCs ignore chemistry. EA describes them as handing in eligible items toward a score instead of building a squad around chemistry, position or squad rating.
- Traditional SBCs may set a minimum chemistry total. Build the hard rules first (club, league and nation counts), then fix chemistry with position changes and by swapping a card for a same-rated player from a linked league or nation.
- Small groups from one nation spread across different leagues are often the cheapest way to add points.
