The date is locked: November 19, 2026
Grand Theft Auto VI comes out on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar's own Grand Theft Auto VI page lists that date, and Take-Two repeated it in its August 7, 2026 quarterly results, where chief executive Strauss Zelnick called the launch the driver of a record fiscal year. No PC version has been announced.
The road here took two delays. The first trailer in December 2023 promised 2025. In May 2025 the game moved to May 26, 2026, the date printed in Take-Two's Trailer 2 announcement. Then on November 6, 2025, Take-Two's quarterly report said Rockstar would release the game on November 19, 2026 instead, to give it more polish. That is the date that has held ever since.
Welcome to Leonida
The game is set in Leonida, a fictional state modeled on Florida. Its biggest city is Vice City, Rockstar's long-running take on Miami, first seen in the original 1997 game and in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2002. Around it sit areas such as Grassrivers, inspired by the Everglades, the Leonida Keys, Ambrosia, Port Gellhorn and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Rockstar sent a research team to Miami and its surroundings, worked with more than 50 street artists on murals for in-game neighborhoods, and hired a Miami stylist to build the fashion of the city. The world pokes fun at 2020s life, from influencer culture to a Snapmatic social app modeled on today's photo and video platforms.
Two leads, one story
For the first time in a main Grand Theft Auto game, the story is built around a pair: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Lucia is the first woman to be a fixed lead character in the series. Players can switch between them, send them off on their own activities or keep them together, and their relationship is shaped by what the player does.
Free-roam activities shown so far include skydiving, basketball, scuba diving and working out, and both characters can visibly change over time, from haircuts and outfits to fitness.
What you get on launch day
Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, after Rockstar announced them on June 24. The Standard Edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition $99.99 in the US. Physical boxes reach stores on November 12, 2026 and contain a download code rather than a disc, so players can pre-load a week early. Rockstar has also confirmed the game will run at 30 frames per second on both consoles at launch, and told press there will be no microtransactions in either edition at launch.
The promotion has spilled into real Miami: since October 1 the roof of the Kaseya Center has carried a Welcome to Vice City sign, and the Miami Heat will play as Vice City against the Milwaukee Bucks on November 18, the night before release.
